Oral History and Legacy Conference
 
One-day conference by experienced scholars
 
The Centre for Public History at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore will be hosting a one-day conference titled "Oral History and Legacy". The conference will be hosted at the National Gallery of Modern Art Auditorium on 19 July, 2011.

The event will have invited presentations by experienced practitioners on key issues regarding Oral History and its uses. This will be followed by discussions. This conference has been supported by the Connections through Culture development support grant programme.

The speakers:
  • Dr Robert Perks, Director and Lead Curator at the National Life Stories Programme of the British Library, London
  • Ms Mary Stewart, Deputy Director at the National Life Stories Programme of the British Library, London
  • Dr CS Lakshmi, SPARROW, Mumbai
  • Urvashi Butalia, Writer and Director, Zubaan Books
  • Dr Suroopa Mukherjee, University of Delhi
  • Dr Indira Chowdhury, Centre for Public History, Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology, Bangalore
The presenters will, while discussing their areas of research interest and experience, highlight some of the opportunities and challenges associated with using oral history as a methodology, in the specific context of India.
 
Registration Details
The conference is open to the public. The registration fee will cover the conference material, lunch and tea. A concessional rate is available for students.
