The British Council India invites you to be a part of Wildscreen, the world’s largest and most prestigious wildlife and environmental film festival. Since its inception in 1982 by Sir Peter Scott, this festival has been organised every alternate year in Bristol. This extraordinary festival intends to encourage and applaud excellence in producing films on the natural world, so as to perpetuate an understanding of nature amongst the global audience and the urgency to conserve it.
In 2011, this festival will tour India and Sri Lanka, from 14-20 February 2011 and will visit Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar and Colombo. Actors Kunal Kapoor and Amala Akineni will open the festival in Delhi and Hyderabad respectively.
Every year, this festival attracts hundreds of delegates from every nook and corner of the globe- including not only those who work in film, television and the press but also people who actively work towards environment conservation. The festival comprises of master classes on various aspects of filmmaking such as - Trends in environmental and wildlife filmmaking, Process from Idea to Greenlight and Scriptwriting. Screening of international wildlife and environmental films along with the award winning entries of Panda Awards, now nicknamed as the green OSCARS®, form an integral part of the festival. The underlying aim is the capacity development of environmental film makers.
It is worthwhile to note that this festival is a part of the British Council’s Climate Change Programme, which aims to mitigate the effects of climate change in the urban environment. The Wildscreen Festival first came to India in 2007 and toured Delhi, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai. In 2009, the festival visited Delhi, Guwahati, Bangalore, Mumbai and Colombo.
