Popular aspects of mathematics and its application today

British Council cordially invites you to attend Celebrating Mathematics, a series of events from 11 Feb to 23 March 2011 on the popular aspects of mathematics and its application today. These events are based on the BBC film, The Story of Maths: from discovery of zero to today’s great unsolved problems.
The modern mathematics owes its evolution to the path breaking revelations made by the Indian mathematicians like Ramajunan and Aryabhatta. The concept of Zero and the decimal system changed the face of the world mathematics, and hence the contribution of India in the ‘Story of Maths’ cannot be ignored. Interestingly, India today is known as the Math Outsourcing Capital of the world.
The workshop includes interesting sessions on the shapes and geometries of surfaces, math wizards, zero - an eternal enigma, mathematical art, math guru and the history of maths.
